Machine Operator [United Kingdom]


 

R&K Drysdales are currently recruiting for Machine Operators our packing departments.

No previous experience is required as full training will be provided by the manager and supervisors during the Summer in preparation for the peak Winter period, however it will be beneficial in the application to have previous experience. Previous factory work will also be seen as beneficial in the application.

The normal working hours are from 06:00-14:15 on an initial Monday to Friday basis, but asks that you are fully flexible when we move into our busy period in December. During this peak season, you will be put on either dayshift or nightshift on a 12 hour shift for up to 60 hours per week for the peak four week period. Throughout the rest of the year this will be predominantly 5 days per week with occasional weekend overtime.

Rate of pay is £10.79 basic and overtime at £16.19. We also have a performance based bonus scheme in place in Sprouts Packing which can increase your hourly rate.

The role involves operating the machine for both preparing and packing the products ready to be dispatched to the shop floors.

Organisation will also be required for this role as you will be monitoring the packing lines ensuring they are safe and the machines are operating to their full potential.

Communication is also key to ensure there are no mistakes. English is not essential for this role but it will be beneficial due to the paperwork that must be completed on a daily basis. Therefore a basic level of English is preferred.

The duties for the role include:

  • Make sure the production line is prepared and ready to go at the start of every shift.
  • Monitor the work area during the day to make sure it is always clear, tidy and safe.
  • Be aware of the health and safety for you and the rest of the line.
  • Tell all staff the product requirements for the day.
  • Make sure that all dates, labels, packaging and tray ends are correct.
  • Report any issues to the production manager (such as faults and damage to machinery).
  • You will be responsible for quality control by checking and monitoring the products.
  • Assisting the supervisor in meeting goals and targets with focus on packs per minute.
  • Be sure to report any production issues and target issues to your supervisor.
  • You will be responsible for filling in small amounts of paperwork throughout the day.
  • Having regular check- ins with management and supervisors when necessary
  • Responsible for meeting production goals
  • Responsible for the whole line that is being operated and the personnel you are working with
  • Manual handling of heavy boxes/crates of product when necessary.
